Board of Directors
The work of the Board is to oversee the financial aspects, strategic planning, and adhere to ethical and legal precedents on behalf of Hokoji. Hokoji’s Board currently consists of three members:
Ian Hakuryu Forsberg, Guiding Teacher and President: Ian joined the Hokoji Board of Directors in October of 2002. He lives in El Salto around the corner from Hokoji and is the Resident Teacher. He has been a part of the Hokoji community since 1987. He came to Hokoji from California where he started practice with Kobun in 1976. He works as a General Contractor in the Taos area.
Patrick Shokei McCarthy, Secretary: Patrick has been practicing at Hokoji since 2014 and received lay ordainment in 2016. Trained as an ecologist, he has worked as a conservation professional for thirty years. Previously he served as a Peace Corps volunteer and worked as a baker and housepainter. Patrick joined the Hokoji Board of Directors in January 2019.
Colleen Jirin Shaughnessy, Treasurer: Colleen has been practicing in Kobun's lineage since 2011 and was ordained at Hokoji in 2017. She has worked in the field of adult education for twenty years and currently works at UNM-Taos. Colleen also trained as a hospital chaplain and volunteers with hospice. Colleen joined the Hokoji Board of Directors in October 2018.
