volunteer
Hokoji relies on volunteers for basic upkeep of the grounds, most of which are typical household and yard upkeep (weed-whacking; dusting; vacuuming; zendo care). There are projects which require a group effort or specific skills (oiling wood; carpentry and masonry projects). There are also deeper projects which require planning, funding, and skills. Please contact us if you see a project you would like to undertake. We welcome your contribution. Many people feel moved to participate in this way as an expression of gratitude for Hokoji’s presence.
In an effort to organize the Dōan role (timekeeping/rhythm) for our Thursday evenings and for our half-day sit on the first Sunday of each month we encourage sangha members to participate in timekeeping activity as a good way to engage with the rhythm of the zendo. If you are interested in volunteering to serve as Dōan please contact us. If you would like to volunteer as a timekeeper but are unfamiliar with how it works please let us know and instruction will be provided.
